I love to give myself little challenges, to change a small habit or to try something new. My most recent one is to really notice the familiar. I find myself grabbing my camera whenever we are going to do something, like taking a weekend trip or heading to a festival, but rarely when I am just going about my life because that just never seems interesting. We’re walking to brunch and passing the same houses we always pass, who would want to see that? But when I’m in a new place, I delight in finding the beauty in the mundane, why not in my everyday life? And so I’m trying to remember that even though I walk by the Capitol every day on my way home from work, it’s still awe-inspiring.

The downside is that now instead of a cute purse, I often show up to happy hour with my camera backpack. But finding angles like this? Worth it.
