By now, I think it’s clear that my favorite thing to photograph is people, which is why our roadtrip was such a challenge. What was I supposed to photograph with no people around (well, except for Steve, who got a tad sick of having the camera 6 inches from his face while he was driving because I wanted to use my macro lens and there was nothing else to photograph)(unrelated: anyone want 17 pictures of Steve’s ear?)?
Once we were safely landed and I started looking through my photos, it became clear that they fell naturally under themes and that I am developing something along the lines of a (gulp!) personal style. Case in point? I really, really like to shoot through things. I like the way it changes my lens and renders a usual scene slightly off or dreamlike.
This was shot through my brown sunglasses with a wide aperture, blurring the space outside heavily while focusing sharply on the space inside the sunglass lens. I love the sepia tone that the glasses give, and it feels to me a bit like looking through half opened eyes.
