Practice

Street photography is something that I used to think that I didn’t really like, but I’ve discovered that actually, I love it. What I often don’t like/feel comfortable doing is lugging my giant camera bag and SLR around everywhere I go and hanging my camera around my neck like a tourist when I’m just heading out for a walk.

Since I got my “nice” camera, I have been mourning a lot of the spontaneous shots that I used to capture with my old point&shoot, simply because my camera was always in my bag, at the ready. While I love all the new worlds that my SLR opens up, I miss using my camera to really document my daily life. The way that I get better is simply to practice. And the way to practice is to take pictures. And I can’t exactly take pictures if my camera isn’t around…

And so, I have purchased a point&shoot again! It will in no way replace my beloved SLR, but I hope that it will let me rediscover more spontaneous photography and document events that aren’t exactly friendly to a Canon backpack and various lenses (see: Sunday brunch, dinner parties in other people’s homes, every night out, ever).
