Yesterday we harvested the first cherries from our tree. I think this cell phone might change the way I take photos because this one? never would’ve been taken before if I had to get my big camera out…but my cell phone? right in my pocket.

The photos it takes aren’t super high-quality, but I’m the girl who uses a digital camera to shoot through old, dirty film cameras so some grain is clearly not an issue for me!

So, on my 25th birthday, I made this list. And last week, I checked another thing off of it. I’d been having one of those weeks, I think we all know exactly what I mean and by the time Thursday evening rolled around and I barreled through the door with precisely 12 minutes to eat, change and head out to the concert, it all sounded rather exhausting. But then we found a killer parking spot and our tickets came with VIP bracelets and free drinks and I found myself sitting in the dark attic of the Den, martini in hand, feet kicked up, leaning into my husband, minutes away from seeing Bon Iver.

The Fox is a gorgeous venue, recently rescued and lovingly restored. It’s full of awesome details, like these two buddhas, whose eyes glow in the dark.

Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.

In case you were wondering why I’ve been relatively absent, it’s because I’ve been very busy picknicking and frolicking.

Just Kidding! Actually these photos are from a month ago and I’ve just been looking at them longingly because hey! that life looks awesome.

Really I haven’t been posting because I’ve been busying not calling my friends back and not taking my camera out and generally getting behind in every area of my life. It’s an artform.

But this weekend I promise to put down the spreadsheets and to-do notebooks and take a photowalk.

Shelled peas and fresh asparagus tossed in a hot skillet until bright green. Thrown together with strawberries and mixed greens. All from a farm about an hour away. Crumbles of goat cheese, black pepper, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

I want to print this out and put it in my wallet so when people ask me how I’m liking life in California, I can pull it out and end the conversation.

Morgan’s backyard is very secret-garden-esque, if your idea of a secret garden contains overgrown flowers, an old clubhouse, some palm trees and a crumbling outdoor fireplace (mine clearly does).

Now that the weather is so beautiful again, there are plans to clean it up (which I so hope they don’t) and we’ve been meaning to take some photos there before any of the awesomeness gets mowed down.

We dragged a few chairs out into the middle of the grass and I set up my contraption.

I’m happy to say I’m getting better at managing it, though I look no less ridiculous doing so – climbing on chairs and peering down into my black-tube-o-construction-paper.

Morgan didn’t mind though – one of the best parts of the old camera is that I don’t just see my subject through the lens, when they look into it, they see my face peeking right back at them. The sight of my looming eye made her laugh.

Or maybe it scared her.

Oh and just in case you thought this was a very. serious. affair., I leave you with this:

We spent all morning yesterday putting life back in order – cleaning and putzing, windows thrown open in every room so the rain could mingle with Bon Iver. Steve confessed that when he thinks about our future, it is often quiet days like these that come to mind – cocooned from the rain, slippers, tea, gentle music, daydreaming & teasing, stealing kisses between the washing and the drying.

I spied this lily outside of our bedroom window while I was making the bed and asked him to please roll up his jeans and hold our one tiny umbrella over my little p&s because I just had to capture the perfect raindrops. In a comedy of errors, we ended up soaking wet, but it didn’t matter because I got this picture and my camera stayed mostly dry and we got to kiss in the rain, cold mud between our toes.

Despite the incredible pull of our couch and fuzzy blue blanket, we even managed to make it out of the house (twice!), stripping off our shoes and socks at the door and running barefoot and screaming down our freezing lake of a driveway because we have no shoes tall enough to beat back the six inches of standing water.

<itunes:summary>We spent all morning yesterday putting life back in order - cleaning and putzing, windows thrown open in every room so the rain could mingle with Bon Iver. Steve confessed that when he thinks about our future, it is often quiet days like these that come to mind - cocooned from the rain, slippers, tea, gentle music, daydreaming #38; teasing, stealing kisses between the washing and the drying.

Remember this? How I couldn’t believe that an artichoke flowered? Well I revisited it in my 50 steps and decided that I love it even more now that it has died. In fact, after taking photos, I snipped two of the dead ones and stuck them in a vase.
