I just realized that all my self-portraits are taken in Washington, DC hotel rooms around 1am – late enough that my friends are all asleep, too early for me to sleep (thanks, time difference!), and nothing good on television.

Just picked up my first ever pair of glasses. Like so many things, I managed to take something that should be very simple and make it completely impossible (No, seriously, my Dr. gave me someone else’s prescription. I had no idea, given that it was my first prescription EVER and the numbers meant nothing to me, so glasses store lady and I spend 30 long minutes thinking the other people was very. slow. as I said things like, no I can’t see as well at a distance! That’s all! It’s not bad! while she eyed my 70-year-old-lady-legally-blind prescription and said things like I have no idea how you got around in the world for so long without glasses! How is this your first pair? You need bifocals! Once we figured it out I asked why she didn’t just tell me that I was blind and she said I didn’t want to make you feel bad! Then, to reward her for being so aware of my self-esteem, I left my wallet/ID/method of payment at home! Huzzah!)

Also, you know those allergy commercials where everything is fuzzy and sad and then ta-da! things are bright and have edges! That’s been me all afternoon. I have no idea how I didn’t notice that I was going slowly blind. I spent 15 minutes in Jamba Juice just pushing my glasses up and down and saying, Is this what the world really looks like?

More importantly, I think this just upped my nerd quotient ten-fold. Now everyone’s going to know I’m prone to starting sentences with So on this blog I read… before I even open my mouth.
